Note: Mike added very easy instructions below my post to mount a toast game CD on SheepShaver and 24bit tested the game successfully on Qemu with Mac OS 9.2. It also works on VMWare, but both are tricky to set-up.

Zoo Tycoon and many other CD-ROM games in the Garden need better emulation than SheepShaver, like Qemu and VMWare. Oftentimes, a game's page will give info on issues and tips that the game might need to play, so it definitely helps to search for games in the Garden that state they run with SheepShaver since it can run a lot of smaller and older games and is easier to set-up.
Mac emulation can be looked at as a game in itself; trying out different programs, getting your feet wet on how Macs used to be like back in the day, getting comfortable with the retro-style of the OS. A rule I learnt a long time ago was, the older the game, the better odds you have of running it; and of it crashing your Mac, too!
